I was born in 1954 in Wishaw, Lanarkshire. I graduated from the University of Glasgow Dental School in 1976. After graduation, I spent 5 years in Kettering, Northamptonshire, gaining general practice experience. Initially I was an associate for three months and then became the practice principle. I married Anne a consultant physician in 1978. We spent much of our spare time leaving Northhamptonshire to pursue our sport and leisure activities so we decided to move to Fort William in 1982 purchasing a long established dental practice on Fort William High Street. In the 18 years that followed the practice expanded and was updated and upgraded. Then in 2001 we merged with the Family Dental Practice to provide the best service to the people of Lochaber. My hobbies and pastimes out with dentistry are diverse. I enjoy DIY, cooking, portrait and landscape photography, keeping fit, travel, skiing, and Scottish and Alpine mountaineering. I am currently chairman of the Glen Nevis River Race Association, and a first team member of Lochaber Mountain Rescue. As well as being active member on the hill, my other duties include being the team statistician, fund raising and organizing the main social events. I enjoy giving people nice smiles with Restorative Dentistry, and find Endodontics and Oral Surgery challenging and rewarding. Over the last 25 years in practice helping those suffering from disproportionate dental anxiety has been the ultimate challenge. I am currently studying towards the Diploma in Post-Graduate Dentistry course with Bristol University. I have been appointed as Dental Tutor for the Highlands and Islands and also Dental Practice Adviser to the Highland Primary Care Trust.
